Dan Hides completed a two-year apprenticeship at Dartington Pottery followed by a two-year HND course in ceramic Design at Falmouth School of Art. Then he had several years experience as a production thrower before opening his own workshop on Feeder Road in Bristol.
Dan attends the Stroud Farmers Market every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
Dan mostly makes wheel-thrown domestic ware in the English slipware tradition. He brushes on a cream coloured slip, allowing the richness of the terracotta clay to show through. After bisque firing he glazes the ware in clear or coloured earthenware glazes.
Dan also slab-builds and casts platters and decorative garden plaques. He will also consider commissions for special pieces.
