When we started running "Made in Stroud" events in Stroud town centre in 1990, we could not have foreseen what we were starting.
Initially set up by Clare to help to market Gerb's handmade tongue drums, the events proved very popular, and with the encouragement of local makers, Stroud Town Council and Stroud District Council, Stroud farmers market was launched by Isabella Blow and Jasper Conran on 3rd July 1999.
In December 2000, on Goodwill Evening, we opened the Made in Stroud Shop with 25 other makers from the area.
We were contacted by other towns who wanted us to set up markets, first Stow on the Wold, then Gloucester, Swindon Designer Outlet, and Malmesbury. We were also asked to set up the Made in Gloucestershire shop in Westgate Street, Gloucester.
We love what we do, and enjoying giving our customers excellent service and making life a little easier for local producers.
Our way of life has totally changed since we set up the farmers markets and the "Made in" shops. we are very busy and very well nourished, and all our 4 children have helped with the businesses before leaving school.
Our philosophy is that small is beautiful and we believe that everyone should be able to buy fresh local food and locally produced gifts and items home & garden near to their home.
To us, people are more important than profit, and we strongly support local farmers and food producers who are the guardians of our landscape and our cultural heritage.
We set up Made in Stroud Ltd- a small family business with values. We are devoted to celebrating local produce and our award winning farmers' markets are a venue for local specialties, seasonal delights and the very best in local craft. We run farmers' markets in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire - currently Gloucester, Malmesbury, Stow on the Wold, Stroud and Swindon.
